Most protective cases are designed around the shape of a device. A smaller number are designed around the habits of the people using it. For the DSPREAD-A30, the second approach made more sense. The terminal's daily life revolves around a printer, a charging dock, and a set of cables. Those three elements, not the outer shell, determined what the case needed to do.
We began by tracing the paper path, the dock contact surface, and the cable routing points, then built the mold around those features rather than treating them as openings to be added later. The cover was shaped so a roll can be swapped without lifting the case off the terminal. The underside was kept flat and thin where it meets the dock, so charging alignment stays consistent. Cable cutouts were positioned from the port measurements themselves, not estimated from a drawing. The silicone surface is easy to wipe down, and the compound resists yellowing and hardening over time. This is a brand-customer customization case, not a product for sample sale. Brands developing similar protective solutions can begin with a validation batch of 100 pieces, with all tooling, molding, and inspection completed in-house.
1. Designed Around Daily Operator Actions, Not Just Device Shape : Paper changes, dock returns, and cable connections were identified as the three actions that determine whether a case stays on the terminal. The mold geometry was built to support each one.
2. Paper Roll Swaps Without Lifting the Case : The cover profile leaves enough clearance for a roll change while the case remains installed, so routine maintenance does not turn into a disassembly task.
3.Underside Kept Thin and Flat for Dock Alignment : Charging alignment depends on a consistent contact surface. We kept the underside thin and level in the dock area so the terminal seats the same way with the case on as it does without it.
